Meet Yabundeje:

Yabundeje's story is one of redemption and strength. Her daughter, Selam, entered the Adera Foundation's daycare program a few years ago. Both Yabundeje and her husband struggle with the complications of leprosy. Although the disease is no longer active in her body, it left its marks. She is missing three fingers, limiting her ability to work. She and her husband had to beg on the streets just to meet the daily needs of their five children. We invited her to join Adera Designs, knowing that she had physical limitations. She did not have the ability to use a needle, but COULD help with the stringing and varnishing the beads! Yabundeje was nervous and didn't think she would be welcomed by the other women because of her past condition. But she didn't know the room she was entering! The other artisans have all had incredible hardships and often found themselves alone and hopeless. But Adera Designs provided them with a community. And when they come to the table, they share their lives, their burdens and their dreams. Adera knows that we cannot do everything for everyone, but we can do something for someone. Today Yabundeje is a pillar among our artisans. Her quiet strength and determination inspires those around her and we hope it inspires you too.
